What you may not know about clay.
WHAT ARE YOUR QUESTIONS?
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE CLAY?
At Blackjack Clay Inc. we use geologists to find out if your land has the potential for mineable or diggable deposits of clay, glauconite, or humate. We negotiate with the land owner to obtain the rights to dig, this is normally in a contract form called a clay lease
WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE CLAY?
Here at Blackjack Clay Inc. we will negotiate an offer with you to lease the land for a clay lease. From then we will test the land to determine if there is sufficient quality and quantity of clay, glauconite or humate. We also may offer to buy the land.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LAND AFTER THE SOIL IS DUG UP?
We reclaim the land by filling the hole using the overburden (dirt removed to get to the soil), smoothing it out and making a lake using the materials that were not taken. We abide by state mining and reclaiming regulations. We will also contour the sides of the pit.
WILL THIS HURT THE ENVIRONMENT?
No it wont! Clay is a sustainable green material that can be found anywhere and everywhere. Both glauconite and humate are used as natural fertilizers. Clay is also used to reduce around 13% CO2 emissions that are produced by cement manufacturing.
WHAT IS A CLAY LEASE?
A clay lease, like a mineral lease, is a contract to lease the land you own for a certain period of time in order to dig or mine clay or other existing soils.
HOW LONG IS A CLAY LEASE FOR?
A clay lease is typically around five years. However it can be entirely negotiable depending on the amount of proved clay, glauconite, or humate in the land.
HOW MUCH WILL I MAKE?
This is entirely dependent on how much clay, glauconite, or humate that is on the land, which will be determined after testing. There are 4840 yards in an acre and that does not include the depth, so typically the soil sold will be more than the property price.
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY LAND DURING MINING?
There will be a pit dug for the clay, glauconite, or humate to be excavated. There will be a separate road to the clay pit for the machines, this is so trucks can travel in and out of the property without disturbing the entrance to a property.Â
Once finished, reclamation on the land will begin.
ADVANTAGE OF A LEASE?
The land owner receives money from the lease and can buy more land if they so choose to do. Many are hesitant to change the landscape of their land, however adding a lake or other amenity depending on the land owner, can greatly increase the property value for future use. If you have livestock or wildlife on the property, water is accessible or a fish pond can be created.
Also, the government cannot use your property to any sort of gas line, water line, electric line, etc. They must pay the right of eminent domain.
